Save The Day is the second adventure in a series for our heroes, Madera Monkey and Figaro Frog. The first app in the series was featured in USATODAY.com and in the Android Market and won 2nd place for Best App For Pre-Schoolers, 2009 Best App Ever Awards.

Save The Day is one of the most interactive storybook apps on the App Store. The story was written to take advantage of the iPad/iPhone/iPod touch interactive technology. It features a mini paint program, draggable trucks, tractor, and helicopter, games to teach size, color, shape, and counting, wipe-the-screen-reveal game, game to catch animated fireflies, interactive blimps that recites the alphabet, hot air balloons that recite numbers, instruments that play melodies when clicked, and many more interactive elements.

Jinny Gudmundsen wrote an article about storybook phone apps for USAToday.com. This is what she says about The Rescue of Ginger.

“This original, 20-page storybook tells the story of Madera (a monkey) and Figaro (a frog) helping Mrs. Applebottom to find her missing cat, Ginger. Madera and Figaro imagine themselves as superheroes as they talk with the animals that live nearby to recreate Ginger’s path. This sweet story about helping others uses multiple voices to represent the characters and charming hand-drawn illustrations.

On every page, kids become a part of this interactive story by touching the screen. They will drag acorns into a tree hole to bribe the squirrel to talk and will stack boxes from the biggest to the smallest to help rescue Ginger. In all, there are more than 100 interactive hotspots including activities that teach numbers, colors, shapes and sizes. The cutest ones involve the little mice who, if tapped, dance and do other silly things.”

Crazy Mike says “[The Rescue of Ginger is] Awesome For Little One’s!”

” The iPhone app Madera & Figaro In The Rescue of Ginger is an interactive playful iPhone app. This app was designed well and has some decent 2D graphics that pop with color. The app is a story about a cat named ginger that a couple of super hero’s help to find. Along the way throughout the story on each page there are different little games that will keep your child interested. Additionally, there are other interactive graphics that your child will find on each page, but they will have to explore to find these fun little side bars. This book is audible so it is that much nicer. I wish they had apps like this when my kids were young. Now my kids are teenagers or aliens and I need a developer to create an app to let me control their minds, because frankly I think they are insane. Madera & Figaro In The Rescue of Ginger costs $2.99 (worth every penny) and receives 4.5 CrazyMike’s heads for being a high powered app for kids.”

We are very pleased with what Cindy Downer wrote about The Rescue of Ginger for iPhone Life.

“Preschoolers will have fun tapping the characters and watching them fly in the sky, make noises, climb trees, play tug of war, and other silly antics as they attempt to Rescue Ginger. As they hear the story read aloud, they’ll also enjoy animations and sound effects such as cows mooing and horses neighing.

It’s also a fun way to prepare them for Kindergarten! As they listen to the story and play with the objects on the screen, the app quizzes them about colors, shapes, counting, and matching.

Adults will probably find the voices a bit cheesy and some not-so-great acting, but The Rescue of Ginger is a very fun and effective app for teaching preschoolers. They’ll love it!”

We are very excited to get our first Android review from Android Mom!!

“We went on a road trip this weekend, so it was the perfect time to test a few android games with my kids as a captive audience!

The Rescue of Ginger is a really cute interactive storybook that I was pleased to see my boys, who are 5 and 8, enjoy! They are Mario Kart fans and I thought this would be too simple. But they especially got a kick out of the dancing mice at the end. It kept them busy for at least 25 minutes before they moved on to a game that blew stuff up. The target audiance is younger, and Ive read reviews of people saying “my 18 month old loved this”. I tried the game with a friends baby and he was intrigued by the game but by no means able to play it himself. I also let several girls aged 5 to 8 play the game too.

The game is very simple and sweet, something parents can appreciate. The child touches arrows to move between the pages or have the page repeated. Except for the baby, all the kids figured this out on their own and were able to navigate the game without any assistance. The story is read out loud by the different characters in funny voices, as they search for their pet cat, Ginger. There are interactive objects on each page, mostly mice, that they can touch too. There is color and shape recognition and some counting, throughout the game.”

Here is the link to the full review

We are very excited to get a great review from The iPhone Mom!

“Madera & Figaro in The Rescue of Ginger is a truly interactive storybook app. Madera & Figaro are a monkey and frog who are looking for Ginger, a lost kitty cat. The app tells their story but you must tap on the characters and objects on each page to keep things moving along. There is no text to read in this story, instead you listen as it’s told to you through the different character’s voices. As you go through the story there are different puzzles to solve that relate to the search for the kitty. The puzzles work with colors, shapes and matching skills. Each page in The Rescue of Ginger features mice. The mice are always doing silly things when you tap on them. At the very end of the story the mice will sing and dance. This is my son’s absolute favorite part of the app. He will skip ahead through the story just to get to that part again. And again. And again.

I like the way The Rescue of Ginger pulls you into the story through it’s puzzles. The characters and silly voices don’t hurt either! To me this feels like an app for older toddlers and preschoolers. I think that older children would enjoy the silly factor but might not listen to the story over and over again. But younger children who enjoy repetition can use this one over and over again and the silly mice are sure to keep them coming back.”
